Semester long - Fall 2020
How can we make it trending or a life goal for our population to care about mother earth? including planting trees, creating careers around environment. Like how #ALS Ice Bucket challenge and similar others have been able to create and spread awareness and following action around them in recent past.
The entire project is depicted in our final presentation slides below :
My sketch of ‘50 renderings of Human communication’ roughly parallels its chronology. It explores verbs like speaking, writing, texting but also nouns like trends, protests. I hope the picture speaks a thousand words to you, takes you through a journey of time and realize just how fortunate we are.
This activity is about finding new purposes for artificial things that have become ‘waste’, and using them to create new things that get people to think about the relation between the things we make or design, and their impact on our planet, its natural ecosystems, and the nonhuman world, i.e. the world of animals, plants, and other beings.
I aggregate and tell stories about things that hold personal meaning for me. As I began to go around this task, I naturally started looking around my room to spot out these objects. And obviously one of them is this MacBook I am using to publish this article.
This activity became very easy after I discovered a photograph of my farewell cake before coming to the US. This was prepared by my family including siblings, sister-in-laws and my parents. As you’ll see below the cake has miniatures of things that my life revolves around.
Here I tell my personal story of each valuable object in my life.
I am a cognoscente of the visceral rather than material and love indulging in ideas, art, history, design etc.
So my Time Capsule form was basically going to be a shoebox with great thoughtful contents inside. But later I decided to shape it like a treasure chest as it will be one when my grandkids open it.
The contents serve as kinda Voyager Golden Record of my life and will inform the future generations about the things I cared about and also the times I lived in.
It’s the year 2165, my grandson finds a treasure chest I created in 2020 to preserve the objects I value dearly.
